Base Rate (BR)

Base Rate (BR) is the minimum rate below which Bank’s are not permitted to lend barring certain exceptions. It is the minimum rate of interest that a bank is allowed to charge from its customers. Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) rule stipulates that no bank can offer retail loans at a rate lower than the BR to any of its customers.

Effective 2 January 2015, Base Lending Rate (BLR) is replaced by Base Rate. Base Rate FAQs
